How to make your face more beautiful in Photoshop

In addition to fate, people have learned to change almost everything, including their appearance. If it is not easy to change your face in real life, plastic surgery is required, then in a photo, you can do anything with it in a few minutes. You can use it to make it: perfect, prettier, cleaner, flat, skinny, smooth, white, round, bigger, paler, matte, smaller, younger, lighter, tan, darker, shiny, mole, porcelain, swarthy, older, acne-free, glossy, well-groomed, lifted, cute, perfectly clean, expressive and change the tone. Velvet Skin

First, we will clean the facial skin of imperfections; second, we will produce a color balance; third, we will smooth the skin. The third stage is the most difficult because in the process of smoothing we will need to leave the skin structure porous.

  • For this lesson, you can take any photo that needs retouching. The Restoration Brush (J) and Patch (J) tools are perfect for retouching freckles. The Restoration Brush works similarly to the Stamp Tool (S). Determine the area of skin you want to clone, and then press Alt, grab a swatch, and cover the freckle. In this way, remove all freckles.
  • Patch (J) is a combination of the Lasso (L) and Restoration Brush (J) tools. Use the Patch tool to select an area of problem skin and move it to an area of perfect skin. As a result, brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation are automatically adjusted. This tool is intended not only for retouching the skin but also for editing the photos themselves when you want to hide some object.

The Patch tool is very convenient for working with large areas, for example, to hide wrinkles. It is not always necessary to remove freckles or scars on the face, it all depends on the requirements of the client. Small pimples on the face without problems can be removed with the restorative brush.

To do this, you need to choose an area of perfect skin and restore the problem area with it. Use a brush with soft edges, so that there are no sharp transitions. In this way, you can easily get rid of problem areas.

Skin Color Balance

As a result of working with the above tools, a color imbalance can appear on the skin.

To fix this, I decided to enhance the skin color with the Vibrance adjustment layer, setting the vibration and saturation to +100. As a reminder, if you are working with a different photo, the settings will be different. The darker the skin on the face, the lower the value you need to set:

  1. Create a new layer with the Ctrl + Shift + N key combination.
  2. In the dialog box that appears, set the Overlay mode and check the Fill With Overlay-Neutral Color (50% gray) checkbox.
  3. Take a soft brush with very low opacity (5 – 15%).
  4. Set the foreground color to dark gray, and change the background color to light gray. You can switch colors very quickly with the X key, and use them to draw shadows and light on the face.
  5. Switch the blending mode to Normal and you will see all the changes.

We don’t need the Vibration layer anymore, so you can hide it or delete it altogether. The Vibration adjustment layer appeared in Photoshop CS4. You can use the Channel Mixer instead, here I activated the Monochrome function and adjusted the red, green, and blue colors. The resulting effect is similar to the result after using Vibration. The Gaussian Blur filter is very often used to achieve various effects, in particular, to retouch and smooth the skin. Combine all the layers into one new Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E and transform it into a smart object. This is very convenient because you can change the degree of blurring at any time.

Apply Gaussian Blur with a radius of 37.4 pixels. Go to the thumbnail of the filter effect mask and fill it with black color, so the blur effect will disappear. Then, use the white soft brush to paint over the skin on your face without touching the hair, eyes, and mouth. Reduce the opacity for this layer from 40 to 70%. The result will be velvety skin without disturbing the skin structure. By reducing the opacity, all the imperfections are hidden, but at the same time, the pores on the skin are almost invisible. If necessary, you can play with the blur settings. You can certainly use this filter to smooth your skin, but the effect will be more realistic if used in combination with other Photoshop tools. The more blurring, the fewer pores will be visible, and therefore the skin will not look natural.
